Nebraska Christian Men's and Women's Choruses

Information for Prospective Members

Celebrating Our 7th Year!

What is the Nebraska Christian Women’s Chorus?

We are an exciting community chorus founded in 2011 that provides an opportunity for women to experience the joy of music, improve their singing skills, and connect with each other spiritually, socially, and artistically. We share a common love of music, joy in one another’s company, dedication to living a life of Christian values, and willingness to share our musical gifts with the public. We welcome women of all ages and faiths who share our mission of fellowship, friendship, and community service through music.

What Type of Music Does the Chorus Sing?

We sing a wide variety of sacred and secular music arranged for women’s voices (first soprano, second soprano, alto).

When and Where Does the Chorus Rehearse?

We rehearse on the second and fourth Mondays of the month at Crestwood Christian Church (8000 A Street). This season begins February 12, 2018 and ends with the Christmas concert in December. Rehearsals begin promptly at 6:30 pm and end promptly at 8:00 pm. While we recognize that there may be occasional conflicts, members are encouraged to attend all rehearsals.

How Often/Where Does the Chorus Perform?

We perform approximately twice a month at a variety of venues throughout Lincoln, Nebraska from May through December. We end our calendar year with a Christmas concert and sing-along held at different churches every year in conjunction with the Nebraska Christian Men’s Chorus.

What Is the Concert Attire?

To provide for a uniform appearance for concerts, we ask our members to wear black clothing: black tops, black skirts/slacks, black hose/stockings, and black shoes. Women are free to wear their favorite jewelry.

Are There Any Costs to Participate in the Chorus?

All members are requested to contribute $15.00, if financially feasible, per fiscal year to the Chorus treasury, preferably by the 1st day of March. These funds are to be used to help cover the costs of some music, supplies, website, and the Christmas concert.

Do I Need To Be Able to Read Music?

No. We welcome all women who enjoy singing and who share our goals. Some of our members are lifelong musicians, some are current or past members of church and school choirs.  We invite potential members to attend a session or two before committing to participate in the Chorus.

The Director

The Women's Chorus is directed by Judy Shonerd.  Judy was one of the founding members of the Nebraska Christian Women’s Chorus (NCWC).  She has been happily involved in church music, writing Christmas plays, and directing church choirs for more than 30 years. Educated at the University of Nebraska Lincoln as a secondary Spanish/English teacher, she uses her teaching skills to advantage in helping others enjoy music. In addition to her new role as Interim Director for the NCWC, she is a regular pianist for church services at Crestwood Christian Church and directs the church’s Magic Choir when it appears for special occasions.
